SGB worked alongside Rutgers University’s Alan M. Voorhees Transportation Center (VTC) to conduct focus groups that explore the effects of crime and perceptions of safety on walking behavior of men and women. A total of six focus groups were held in the fall of 2017, two each in Newark, Bloomfield, and Verona. Through the focus groups and intercept surveys carried out by VTC, we have gained a better understanding of the nuances of decision-making related to walking and how those differ for men and women.
